What is "A Place For All?"
The statement that “children want to do the right thing, and if they can do well, they will” set the initial tone for
A Place for All. This innovative training consists of six monthly sessions that focus on classroom management, philosophy, and methodology. Participants learn that it is both more productive and better respects the dignity of the person to be curious about an individual’s behavior than to judge it as a character flaw. Finding out “what’s the matter?” is pro-active and leads to a solution that assists the individual, and the instructor, to be successful.
This formation was specifically designed to ensure participation from a broad audience. It incorporates content that addresses a common desire to create
“a place for all".
A Place for All is professional development specifically aimed at providing in depth training and resources to Church leaders, staff and volunteers to assist them to more successfully teach individuals with various intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Class participants reflected that it changed the lives of those they serve as well as their own. As with all aspects of our faith, it’s about relationships. Adele Menezes stated that it “helps so much with how I view everyone in my life. It changes families. It is a very powerful resource for the local Church.” The number of individuals being diagnosed with intellectual/developmental delays (attention deficit, autism, etc…) continues to rise. Hence, our parish communities have seen the same increase.
Registration for “
A Place for All” for 2015 - 2016 is pending (registration information will be posted soon). This past year’s participants are eager to assist us in encouraging others to attend! As stated by one attendee, “it will change the way you view your interactions with students, family and friends.” For more information or to register, contact Charleen Katra in the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis at email@example.com or call 713-741-8793.
