VIRTUS: Protecting God's Children
A three hour safe environment program for all adults, 18+ years old, maintaining regular contact with children in our parish; provides adults with the tools to maintain a safe environment and help protect children from sexual abuse. The VIRTUS: Protecting God's Children workshop is mandatory for all adults who volunteer with minors within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. VIRTUS: Keeping the Promise Alive ("KPA")
A mandatory refresher course that went into effect in 2012. Volunteers that have taken “VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children” program between the years 2003 and 2008 are presently required to attend. The KPA refresher course is designed to identify and reinforce the lessons of the original “VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children” program by clarifying some of the more challenging aspects of the sessions and strengthening the participants’ ability to recognize risky adults in their environments and take action to intervene in potentially threatening situations.
KPA is a 1.5 hour session with a video that provides ongoing awareness for the prevention of child sexual abuse. During the registration process you will be required to submit to a Criminal Background Check and sign a Code of Conduct. To register for the KPA Refresher course, click here. A program for high school age youth who regulary assist adults ministering to children under the age of 18; provides high school age youth with age appropriate knowledge and skills needed to foster a safe environment with the children whom they serve.
